In April of 2015, legislation passed that required water heater manufacturers to comply with new efficiency regulations, effective July 1, 2018. These regulations were meant to reduce nitrogen oxide emissions for gas water heaters in the state of Utah. What this means is that water heater manufacturers have been working for the last three years to phase out older, less efficient water heaters to produce and stock water heaters that are compliant with the new legislation.
So, if you are in the market for a new water heater, you’ll find across the board that water heaters are increasing in price. New technology and new efficiencies are always more expensive to manufacture and that cost is reflected in the final price of these newer, more efficient water heaters. However, there are still water heaters for sale on the market that were manufactured before July 1st and that can still be sold and installed as existing inventory.
For example, when the plumbing supervisors at Any Hour Services found out about the new emissions regulations standards, they bought up any water heaters they could find that had been manufactured before July 1st of 2018. They wanted to be able to offer a spectrum of choices for any price range, and be able to pass the discount on these older model, but still brand-new, water heaters along to our customers.
If you’ve been experiencing problems with your water heater, it’s old, and/or not functioning like it should, now might be a really good time to consider replacing it, while you can still take advantage of lower prices on older-model water heaters.
